Maritime Studies Certificate I and II


These studies are for those of you intending to follow a career involving the sea, such as
the merchant navy oraquiculture, or those who view the water as a recreational pursuit.

As VET studies they offer 150 hours of studyin boating safety, seamanship,
coastal navigation, the marine environment and scuba diving.You can gain industrial
certification in modules from Australian Maritime Collegeand Fisheries Industry
Training Board Certificate I or II (still to be finalized) in Elements of
Shipboard Safety (occupational health and safety component),
Limited Coxswains Certificate,and Dive Master.

The studies include 150 hours of work placement.
You must choose the modules and the work placement.

Multimedia Certificate II


The Certificates III & IV in Interactive Arts - Multimedia is a two year course linked to the
latest industry interactive multimedia and Internet training. They represent the best in hands-on,
high technology skills training. They will provide ease of entry into
a career or further education in the world of Multimedia.

QANTM Australia CMC is the registerd training provider. They maintain the national standard
and issues the Nationally Recognised Certification. QANTM has formed a partnership
with Virtual Magic (a local Industry leader) to form QANTM Tasmania and is also
the principal curriculum provider for TAFE Tasmania.

Multimedia is fast becoming the new growth industry. A recent study by
the IT&T Skills Task Force, a joint Federal Government and Industry initiative,
revealed that the growth rates of nearly 200% are expected nationally in
the next five years in the boom areas of internet and multimedia development.

The Hutchins Centre for Computer ARTS offers a two-year study for those of you
wishing to pursue multimedia and internet opportunities in further education
or directly into industry. The Certificate III & IV are offered to cater
for varying ranges of skills and knowledge.



You are introduced to:

industry context and future directions including Visual Design for Industry;

multimedia design including; structure, interactivity and the interface;

all components of multimedia including digital audio, video, imaging,
animation 2D, 3D modelling and authoring;

delivery technologies including the internet and other mediums
;
effective design principles and practice;

industry standard software principles and practice,

and will have an opportunity to engage in free enterprise activities which require
creativity, initiative, teamwork and communication skills.

Work placement can be completed through several methods.
Further information can be obtained from Mr Stacey (Careers Counsellor)
or Mr Moore (Faculty of Design and Technology). In addition to
the nationally recognised Cert.III or IV qualification you will also gain
credit in one of six stages of the T.C.E Computer Graphics and Design syllabus
for each year studied. Credit can also be obtained with TCE ‘A’ or ‘S’ units
in 3D Modelling and Animation and Digital Video.

These certificates are well suited to those of you who is putting together a course
relating to creativity and design and are planning to pursue further
education or entrance to the workplace.
