Tasmanian Schools Postcard Art Competition
- The theme of Mental Health Week is Participate 08
- The Mental Health Council Tasmania (MHCT) on behalf of the Statewide MHW Reference Group, is excited to be running an art competition for Tasmanian school students
- Students are encouraged to submit artwork that reflects the theme of MHW – Participate 08....this includes how do you keep mentally well and healthy as an individual and as a community
- Two winners will be selected – primary and secondary
- The winners artwork will be published on a postcard, with the inclusion of a Health Promotion message
- These postcards will be distributed throughout the year by the MHCT
- Prizes will also be awarded to winners and runners up at the Launch of MHW, to be held in Hobart
Artwork will need to be submitted by Thursday 18 September to:

Many thanks for your support in raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the Tasmanian Community. While this competition may not completely align with current curriculum, it is hoped that it will not only increase students’ awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the community, but expand programs such as MindMatters.

Move Well Eat Well is a new resource for primary schools, currently under development by the Department of Health and Education. The resource will provides primary schools with

Recognition for their efforts in promoting healthy eating and physical activity (similar to Sunsmart)

Tasmanian curriculum ideas and links to local health professionals for support
- A framework for a whole of school approach, linking community, teachers and parents
The resources currently being drafted will be available to schools in 2009 and at this stage, it is planned to include “snippets” from schools already doing interesting work in the areas of physical activity or healthy eating that may inspire others.

Collection of Information on Student Background Characteristics
Schools are to collect information from parents in 2005 on family background following an agreement between all state and territory Ministers for Education and the Federal Minister. The information will be used to identify factors which influence how well children perform at school.
The following resources are for use by schools and parents.
